LO3: PLANNING A STORYBOARD, THE RECORDING OF A CINEMATIC SCENE
the aforementioned 2 films were without speech much like “n w a a r”
is. A Page Of Madness (JP 1926) was one of the inspirations for the
previous film. The faceless characters were previously featured on
Tom & Jerry (US since 1940) where the humans were only seen
with the lower part of their body. Peanuts (US, 1950) is another
show where the adults are not seen nor are they heard.
The other influence is from early SciFi titles from film & TV.
The previous film “Nzumbi” or “Nzambi Ibmazn” is one of the inspirations.
Some of the film is shot with a first-person perspective which is
uncommon in many films. This is intended to display a new
method of filmmaking. Scenes that are shot with a one point
perspective was another concept considered
because this shot appeared in a well known movie called
The Third Man (US 1949) where the character’s shadow is visible
in a tunnel, this was intended to be a homage to that film.
There were also scenes with smoke and a vehicle planned that
was planned to be shot but was withdrawn from the final film cut
for what was to be shot.
Ideas in the storyboard which disappeared in the actual film were
show the college site which was supposed to be concealed.
In the end result, parts of the buildings would be seen from
unassuming angles. The smoke scene was omitted because the
budget for the film was being set as low as possible.
Some of the weaknesses of the other ideas were it did not account
for weather or the volume
of surrounding voices of students during filming.
The ideas that I decided to use in the film are the single point
perspective at some points and there are also conventional
“rule of thirds” type of scenes, where the scene is shot from an
angle where one third of the screen is occupied by a certain
subject in the scene. To make up for the smoke there were
various effects including blurred scenes and lighting
in the office in the beginning of the film, which was created
with LED panels.
The lighting sequence was created separately and strongly reflected the "film noir" style of similr to a spotlight
With the visual effects , the impact was enhanced, the images below display the setup of the LED panels to
create the effect in the lighting sequence
